Why doesn't distribution lists update automatically

I have lots of distribution lists. Sometimes, one person might be on 5 different lists. I have a contact for each person that is on a list.

If someone chnages their email address, I change it in the contact, but it does not do it in the list untill I update the list.

Is there a way to have it done automatically?

I don't have any code samples that can update that but I do have some code that can categorize contacts based on DL membership so you know which DLs need refreshed. See Add a Category to Contacts in a Contact Group (DL) | Slipstick Systems

If i get a chance, i'll see if i can find some code that can refresh the DLs.

Thanks for the quick response.

I do use categories and I list a category for each list in each contact.

So, if I have a client that is on 4 of my lists and tehy change their email address, I have to write down which lists they are on and then manually open each one and do an update.

If I remember correctly, even Outlook Express, the FREE email program, updated all "groups" (thier name for distribution lists) automatically.

That would be a great thing to "fix" in outlook.

Outlook Express groups were more like folders. In Outlook its a separate file. We recommend using categories to make dynamic dl's so you don't have the hassle of updating DLs - filter by category, select it and send message. The only real problem with this method is that you can't insert the addresses in the CC or BCC field as easily - you need to copy the addresses from the to field and paste into the BCC field.
