When I send as attachment directly from within Powerpoint, Outlook freezes

I'm using Office 2010 across the board. When I try to Send and Save (Send as e-mail attachment) from within Powerpoint, a new message with the attachment is generated. The new message page however is unresponsive. I cannot type in an e-mail address or even query the Address Book. Any thoughts?
 
It does not work in either offline or safe mode unfortunately. I have seen certain users experience a 5 minute hang time and then it comes alive but for a number of individuals it stays in a frozen state. I can close the Message window and Outlook will be fine so it is just the message window that is actually freezing.
