Have Outlook 2016 suggest email address auto complete entries directly from the user's contacts list

How can we make it so that every time that a user types the first few characters of a user's name or email address within the address bar Outlook 2016 will automatically search the user's Outlook contacts and then suggest email address auto complete entries based upon the user's Outlook contacts.

We have several users who have lots of Outlook contacts and when they type in the first few letters of the user's names or email addresses within the address bar the users whose email addresses they are looking for don't appear in the email address auto complete suggestion lists.

The email server is Office 365.

How can this be fixed?

Or are there any utilities or software programs that will prompt Outlook 2016 to search through all existing contacts to provide relevant email address auto complete suggestions?
 
Office 365 mailboxes should more or less do this (but there is a limitation to the # of addresses in the list) - it will add 'recent people' (people who sent you email, even if you did not reply) and people you replied to on the new autocomplete list. Because it is limited to about 1000 addresses, it won't add everyone to the list. You can pre-populate the list by adding everyone to the To field then saving the draft (then delete it without sending).

Outlook also has a feature called autoresolve that will look for matches in contacts if you don't select a name from the autocomplete list. Type in enough of the name to be unique then tab out or press Alt+K to force it. If the name is unique, the entry is underlined. If there are multiple matches, it will have a red line and you right click to select the right one.

Mrs Diane, Would you know how to revert back to the old autocomplete? Where it would pull a complete list of contacts not just recent people? When I installed 2016 the autocomplete was like I was used too but it seems like an update was pushed out that changed this feature to only showing five "recent people" and "other sugg"

Any info would be appreciated. thanks!
 
wow thats what i had feared. Is this going to be the way Outlook autocomplete is from this day forward? I have many clients that have already complained. You would think Microsoft would give us the option.
 
Yes, its the new way forward, unless they get enough complaints/requests. Check outlook.uservoice.com - see if someone else put in the suggestion and if not, add it. if it gets enough votes or a lot of good comments making a "business case" over why the old way was better/important, they might make it an option.

I have submitted ideas, voted on other ideas, etc.
In some (many ?) cases it seems like it takes a long time for "moderator approval".
Anyway,...do you think it is a useful process to get our feedback to Microsoft ?
What about Answers.microsoft.com ... does Microsoft also look there to get ideas about what areas need attention ?

Yes, uservoice is the proper place to make suggestions. There are only 2 or 3 people who do moderation so yeah, it can be slow at times. (especially around holidays.)

That's not a good place for suggestions. It's mostly peer-to-peer support. While some actual microsoft employees monitor answers for problems, especially right after a new update is released, they are less likely to see suggestions within threads, especially long threads. They don't read every post.
 
Oh our prayers have been answered! They changed it back with one of the updates a few weeks back. SOOO glad!
 
Amazing... i never noticed it (but i tend to just reply to messages, not send new ones) - oh wait, its back to the old format on the public version but the insider build on my desktop has the new style.
