Receiving duplicate messages from RSS feeds

I've been using Outlook 2010 as an RSS reader for years without any problems. However, several weeks ago, without making any change on my end that I'm aware of, I began to receive two of every message I received from several of my RSS feeds--but not all of them.

Do you have any idea what could have caused this, and how to remedy the situation?
 
Two things I am aware of that will create duplication - using the option that updated feeds are treated as new. This is in outlook's file, options, advanced. If you use exchange/outlook.com and two computers, the feed may be downloaded by both.
 
I'm afraid neither of those possibilities is at work here.

The problem has persisted even though I have the option you mentioned unchecked, and only one computer is involved.

Even though the two shouldn't be connected, I'll ask about a superficially related problem, in hopes that a solution to it will solve the original problem as well.

What could cause, and how can I remedy, the situation were I am also seeing a pair for each reminder that Outlook produces? The screen shot attached should clarify what I'm talking about.

And there aren't two copies of this event, in one or more calendars in the profile? That is the usual cause of this - i don't think I've ever seen duplicate reminders due to reminder corruption, but you can safely rebuild the reminder folder by closing outlook and restarting with the /cleanreminders switch.

Close Outlook. Press Windows key + R to open the Run command and type or paste

outlook.exe /cleanreminders

then press enter.
