This is more of an observation than a question. I have been an Outlook user for some time, and upgraded to Outlook 2021 when moving to a new computer.
I am generally hesitant to allow the Outlook client do any processing of emails (apart from sending & receiving), but as I have quite a few duplicate emails, thought I would give the built in duplicate removal function a go (after reading about it).
In Outlook I went 'Home > Clean Up > Clean Up Folder & Sub Folders', let it run, and it could be seen to be processing.
I was happy, not having to locate a third party utility.
The duplicates are moved to the deleted folder.
Being inquisitive / not trusting, I selected a couple of messages from the deleted folder, and searched for these in the inbox using the subject.
Surprisingly (or should that be not surprisingly), the search did not find the duplicate email message (as found in deleted) in the inbox.
I have since copied the emails from the deleted folder back into the inbox, as I would rather have duplicated emails than missing emails.
I am disappointed as I was hoping the newer version would work. If I was going to use it again, I would need a utility to confirm that the duplicates moved to the deleted folder are in fact duplicates, which kind of defeats the benefit of using this built in function in the first place.
Can anyone recommend a third party freeware duplicate removal tool that works with Outlook 2021?
