newly installed Office 365 includes OLD Outlook

I had the impression from some recent posts that all new installs of Office 365 included the NEW Outlook. However, when I installed Office 365 on a newly purchased Windows 11 Pro, the OLD Outlook was installed, fortunately.
 
Was office preinstalled? Classic Outlook is only missing from new computers with office preinstalled. Only some brands may be affected - and likely only with newer product lines. Older product lines would still be using an older OEM image, one that has classic Outlook in it.

I know it is missing from Surface and at least one other brand (forget which :)) but not everyone with a new toy computer is affected.
 
Office 365 was not pre-installed, as far as I could tell. I had to run the Office 365 Installer. That said, this system's image was at least nine months old.

Does anyone know a way to remove the New Outlook setting?
 
The following will disable New Outlook installs:
1. Right click on Start Menu and choose Apps and Features

2. Uninstall Outlook (new)

3. Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps
(you will need to change security for you to have read/write access)

4. Create new folder named Microsoft.OutlookForWindows_1.2024.925.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
Note: Look for folder Microsoft.OutlookForWindows_xxxxxxxxxxxx__8wekyb3d8bbwe
- before creating the new folder, rename the above as Orig-<folder name>)

5. Right click on newly created folder and choose Properties

6. Select Security tab, then Advanced

7. Click on Disable inheritance and choose Remove all inherited permissions from this object

8. Click Apply and Yes
 
You can uninstall it in Windows Settings > Apps (works fine if you are not trying to use windows mail) - and disable the try new Outlook switch in classic outlook.

Microsoft has two "new" Outlooks, one for MacOS and one for Windows. How to switch back to classic Outlook and disable the Try new Outlook switch.
