I've been noticing lately that this Office component randomly starts taking about 25% CPU, perhaps indefinitely. I've just been ending task on it, but this problem is not one that I saw before recent weeks that I recall. Maybe it's an issue with recent builds, but it's annoying.

As for stopping it, that's unclear. I'm first trying disabling Optional Connected Experiences (in Privacy Settings) but I'm not sure that it's directly related.

I've seen this problem with only having Outlook running but I doubt that it's an Outlook-triggered issue per se.
 
Looks like "aimgr.exe" is a "sleeper" that Microsoft has been shipping for some time, but just recently has become a problem.

That's a cool sledgehammer approach (just deleting the files in question). If it comes to it, I'll do it, but usually MS does give you some kind of control over these sorts of things. I wonder if they have and it's not widely known yet.

Also, I wouldn't mind the existence of the feature except for it going rogue for no apparent reason. That's probably a bug, not a feature (at least I hope).
 
It sounds like a background Office process is getting stuck and using too much CPU. This issue has been reported by some users after recent Office updates. Try disabling “Connected Experiences” and turning off background sync options in Office settings. You can also repair Office through Apps & Features > Microsoft 365 > Modify > Quick Repair. If it keeps happening, check for the latest Office updates, as Microsoft usually patches such bugs quickly.
 
I assume that's optional Connected Experiences. It hasn't happened since disabling that yesterday, but it's too soon to tell.

Background sync sounds like a bad one to disable, and an odd one to even have (Outlook would only sync when you're actively using it? If so, the cure is worse than the disease.), though I've yet to find it.

I kind of wondered why it seemed almost random, but it wasn't until today when a new Office update became available that I finally picked up on the cause: it's something that the Office installer triggers. When it's finished, the problem begins. I'm not sure if it only begins once you then run an Office component, like Outlook, but I doubt it, as closing the given Office component doesn't make it stop.

So, this appears to be a bug (it had better be a bug) involving the new-ish AI component which is triggered by something that happens with an Office update.
