Word attached files open Word. Excel files open Picture Manager!!

When an email arrives with a WORD attachment I can double click the attachment and Word 2010 opens to view the attachment, however if I double click an Excel attachment it opens, or rather doesn't, in Picture Manager!! All that is shown is the Picture Manager icon. I have to save the file and then open it again.

I have done a Google search but cannot find a solution to this one, there does not seem to be an 'Open With' option in Outlook and I cannot find a way in Control Panel default programs to change the association.

Office 2000 was ever so simple compared to this version...........
 
Found the answer, .xls files were associated with 'Microsoft Office 2010' I changed program to Microsoft Excel. Bingo, double clicking now opens the files.
