hi,

after reinstalling Vista Home Premium on my HP laptop and reinstalling Outlook 2010, i FINALLY have everything working except one weird detail: when i compose an HTML email, i no longer have wordwrap, but do with plain text or rich text emails. on reply to even a plain text email, i don't have it. i've dug around every conceivable option in all the menus and have come up with nothing. never have had this problem before. not using any themes. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanx!

george

Did you make any changes to outlook - like to the margins?

i'd close outlook and find & delete the email template - normalemail.dotm is in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

hi diane,

thanx for the help but it didn't work. and no, i hadn't changed anything as far as margings or settings. just reinstalled. also, every time i now open outlook, it asks me which profile i want. i choose. 'george' and check 'make this default', but it doesn't. i always have to choose. not the end of the world, but why does it present the option to make a profile a default, then not save it?

thanx,

george

On the profile: do you need more than one? If not, delete the others. Also, go into Control panel, search for Mail and open the profile dialog. Is george set to be the default and outlook set to always use that profile?

So deleting the email template didn't help? What style are you using? (look on the Format text ribbon)

hi again diane, thanx for getting back.

i didn't think i had two profiles but apparently i did- the one outlook automatically creates on install, and the outlook data file that i brought in containing my data. at any rate, i got rid of it, and i went thru the control panel like you said and straightened it all out. big help.

on another note, i have a .pst with my email address. it doesn't seem to be common knowledge that if you're using imap email accts, your calendar and contacts are stored separately, not with the emails. for years i'd heard that it was all lumped in one .pst, so i'd been only copying the .pst with my email address to a backup drive and thought i was covered. thankfully, i had a cloned HD from my laptop about a month back with the outlook data file that had my calendar and contacts, and i was able to retrieve that and open it under my new install. whew!

no, deleting the email template didn't help. i use HTML for my emails. don't know if this is a clue or not, but i used to be able to copy a url into an email and it would automatically create a hyperlink, but now i have to do it manually. don't know if it's related but thought i'd throw it out there in case.

once again, thanx for the assistance. i really appreciate your time and knowledge,

g

Glad we got half of the problem straightened out.

I don't think the hyperlink is related. I'm asuming it doesn't hyperlink if you press enter at the end of it? If not, check the settings in File, Options, Spelling and Autocorrect, Autocorrect options - look on the autoformat as you type tab. Is replace as you type... internet paths enabled?

diane,

when i choose File, Options, Spelling and Autocorrect, Autocorrect options like you suggest, the autoformat as you type tab is greyed out, as are all the others except autocorrect. within that tab, everything is grayed out except Replace text as you type, which is checked, and plain text is chosen, but i can't change it because the options are greyed too. all i can do is scroll to see the replacement text. not sure what any of this means:)

it might be a clue... do you have only Outlook 2010 or one of the office 2010 suites? Spell check features are limited in standalone outlook but if you have word (any version), copy winword.exe to the same folder with Outlook.exe and restart outlook. Those options should be available once you do.

diane,

sorry i didn't get back sooner. never got an email notification that you'd replied.

no, i don't have Office 2010, so i don't have access to that, but i've never had it, so why didn't this problem arise before my OS reinstall and the reinstall of outlook?

thanx,

g
