Outlook 2003 - possible to recreate corrupt account?

Hi all. My W7\Outlook 2003 mail system is misbehaving. When I log in it'll ask me for a password 5 or 6 times before it finally accepts my entry and sends\receives messages. (The mail server website has no such idiosyncrasies and logs me in instantly.)

I thought it was an ISP mail server problem, and checked with their helpdesk, but nothing they tried worked. Finally, the guy said I should remove and recreate my account in Outlook.

Is there any way to do this without losing settings and configurations? I'm an IT guy, so it's really not a BFD if I absolutely have to do it, but I'd rather find a quicker way than rebuilding the account, with all its little tweaks and fine adjustments, from the ground up.

Thanks Diane. There's no option to 'edit' the profile: do you mean to add a new account alongside the old (presumably with a new name) and then, once the new profile tests out, delete the old?
