Outlook 2003 - Do I need a new profile?

My profile seems to be corrupt. Not disastrously so, just enough to be occasionally annoying. For example, my mail password isn't always remembered. Mail copies aren't saved to my pop3 server, even though the option is checked. Archiving doesn't work either.

I'd like to keep my current PST file so I can refer back to old mails from time to time, so I wondered if I could simply create a new profile and operate from that, just like we used to do with a new Identity in Outlook Express.

Good idea? Or do I need to do a total reinstall, wiping reg keys and the whole 27 feet?

Password might not be a problem if you use multiple devices to check email - another device could have you locked out of the mailbox. Not saving mail on the server could indicate problems, archive could be the result of the last modified date, especially if you imported the mail.

But to answer your question - you can keep your pst and you can create a new profile and set the pst as the default data file. Step 5 at http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/config/move-outlook-to-a-new-windows-computer/#pst shows how.
