Help! Can't set up IMAP for gmail

I can't seem to set up my gmail IMAP account in Outlook 2013. I have found the directions on this forum and follow them exactly. I keep getting a box that prompts me for the gmail password which I type in and the same box with the same prompt keeps coming back until it finally shows a different box with a message that says,
"Your IMAP server wants so alert you to the following. Please log in via your web browser: https://support.google.com/mail/accounts/answer/78754 (Failure)."

I don't have much hair left and I am close to pulling it out. Please help if you can.
