Emails sorted by conversation including replies and categorized by color.

Hello,
My emails were set by conversation and then was able to put them in a color category. The only thing with that was that the conversation did not have my replies included. They stayed in the "sent" folder.
I had someone add my replies to show in the conversation.
Now I have the replies included in the conversation but when I try to categorize it gives me a message that the sort is too complex.
How can I have my emails in a conversation including my replies and being able to categorize these emails by color?
