I've installed Office Home & Business 2010 on my new Windows 11 laptop [Windows 11 Home, version 24H2, build 26100.2894].

Over the past decades I've been able to add the iCloud Outlook Add-in to my Outlook 2010 installations - even on Windows 11. [I still have it installed on another laptop running Windows 11 version 23H2, and I can at least see my iCloud contacts.].

On the new laptop Add-Ins (manage Add-ins), when I go to the COM Add-Ins it will not add the dll. [C:\ProgramData\Apple Inc\iCloud\Outlook\aplzod32.dll]

Is there any workaround to get the contacts visible in Outlook 2010, or have I finally hit the end of the line on my enjoyment of the old 2010 software? (Over the years I tried Outlook 2013, and the paid Microsoft 365 versions I've refrained from since I prefer the desktop interface).

It looks like you have the right add-in - Outlook 2010 should be 32 bit and the dll is the 32 dll.

Did you download iCloud from apple or install it from the Microsoft store?
Thank you, Diane. I downloaded iCloud from the Microsoft store. [http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ re-directs to the Microsoft store.]

My experience in June, 2022 with an older Windows 11 version on another laptop was that Outlook found the Add-in. This time I had to manually navigate to the dll so the path would show on the list of Add-ins, and then it was called "invalid." (I checked the file size of my older dll and it is the same as the new one.)

A question for you - from your experience - if one has to upgrade to a new mail client because Outlook 2010 isn't supported for iCloud and hotmail accounts - what have you found to be a stable and functional client for easily searching through decades of emails offline? (I've got three Hotmail accounts, and two Gmail accounts). My experience (very little experience) with on-line email is that the user interface on-line seems not designed for intermediate level users who want to do more than just read recent mails and send mails. I'm aware there are other clients out there, and would not know what to choose - especially if they are fee-based rather than a one-time purchase like Office Home & Business 2010 was. My 2010 Word and Excel programs still work fine, and I'd prefer not to have a conflict with Microsoft 365 licensing.

Hmmm. Either the add-in doesn't work with Outlook 2010 or you picked the wrong dll

Is the other computer using the store version too?

Try this one - uninstall the store version first.

My preference is eM client - it's free for two email accounts. It can import PST files into a data file - they are in the folder list similar to how PST files do.

I have no experience with the iCloud Add-In so I can not speak with any authority. Only offer some "blind" suggestions.

Reddit Thread that may apply: iCloud Outlook Add-in not working anymore

In one case of an Add-In not loading properly, I found that starting Outlook ONCE "As Administrator" (Elevated Privileges) fixed it. I only needed to run it As Admin ONCE. After that it runs as Normal.

Instead of moving to a non-Microsoft client, wouldn't just buying an upgrade to a newer, supported Desktop version, of Outlook be easier?

The link to the non-store iCloud version worked very well on my new laptop! iCloud is now showing as version 7.21.0.23 after the install. This non-store installation also resolved bad issues with the system that manifested after Microsoft store version was installed (unable to play through headphones without sound glitching; Device Manager window rapidly refreshing over and over). Everything seems to be working correctly on this machine now (although, I haven't yet installed my Kaspersky antivirus software to ensure it's compatible).

Another related question for you:

I have four machines with Outlook 2010 installed on them - two with Microsoft store versions - two with Apple versions. They all seemed to be working, until...

On one of the Windows 11 laptops I exited iCloud control panel (it was using an older non-store iCloud version), and when I restarted the laptop the iCloud control panel had lost ability to remember login credentials on startup, and was prompting for login and password.

Also, I was unable to enter a password on Outlook 2010 to establish a connection with the mail server - even if I'd logged back in to iCloud from the control panel. My thought was to uninstall Outlook and re-install from the non-store link:

I uninstalled all the other Apple apps I could see running on the laptop (other than Bonjour) and then uninstalled iCloud, then re-installed iCloud from the non-store link (thinking I'd now have a good working non-store version).

Outlook is able to populate the iCloud contacts, but it won't accept a password to the iCloud email account. Also, the iCloud control panel keeps asking for a password. (I may have accidentally forgotten to uncheck the allow Apple to update software button when I re-installed, so I re-nstalled a second time).

Are you familiar with this behavior, Diane, and can you tell me how to get iCloud control panel working again with Outlook?
(Apple Software Update is version 2.6.3.1 after the non-store install.)

I've seen others report similar issues - the usual fix for password problems is to remove the entry from the Credential manager but I'm not sure if iClouds are stored there. I'll have to check.

No need to check, Diane. I think to problem was I didn't get all iCloud leftovers un-installed off of the laptop. So, I did the following to get rid of everything:

Remove iCloud email account and iCloud data file from Outlook 2010, so they are no longer prompting for a server connection.

Download newest store version of iCloud, and install it over the old one to get rid of as much conflicting stuff as possible that it may find during installation.

Go to Settings->Apps to find the iCloud app that's just been installed. Open the options and Reset it.

Then Delete the App from Settings->Apps once it's been Reset to get everything off the laptop.

Restart the laptop, and iCloud seems to be gone, finally.

I'm refraining from installing the older version of the app on this laptop again, as I don't send emails from this laptop anymore. I'm happy my other machines are happy at the moment, and I'm leaving well enough alone, at this point :)

As always, thank you for your help and wisdom!

Another question for you - I just realized Kaspersky antivirus software is no longer available in the US. That was going to be my next step after getting iCloud working to get antivirus software installed.

Do you have an anti-virus program you prefer for protecting from internet browsing, downloads, email? Some folks are suggesting Windows 11 Windows Security is enough? Also, for Windows 10?
