I downloaded a sample form from your Outlook sample apps page http://www.slipstick.com/addins/misc...ns-for-outlook. The form in question is the 'While you were out' form.

I have the form loaded and copied to our organizational repository, but I am getting the classic ‘Form Failed to Load’ error.

I have done a couple of test sends of the form (loading from the PST, not the repository) and it sends what appears to be a basic email, not the form (as viewed from the sent items folder).

Also, I would very much like to have a button on the toolbar for ‘new message’ that automatically brings this form up without requiring the user to browse the form library...I would like to add an item to the 'new' item list...is this possible?

Thanks

Jeff

Thanks for the response...i have no doubt that it works, what i am wondering is if there might be one of those pesky controls that have issues in 2010? Either way, let me know if I can provide any information to help find out what is going on...the form load fail is a bit ambiguous.

Are you using the original While you were out or the WYWO alternate version?

This is what the received message should look like - you'll either see a note saying to open the form or the message field - you need to open it to see the formatted fields. (Type of contact and importance are in the subject and in the header if you don't need the eye candy.)

You need to use VBA to open the form without going through the open form dialog - see How to Open Outlook Templates and Files using Toolbar Buttons - Slipstick Systems for the code.

I'll have to set up my test server to use an org library - i use office 365 and it doesn't support org library. :(

on the error- Outlook 2010 caches the names of the forms in the Exchange Organizational Forms Library. The cache expires every 24 hours. If a new form in the Organizational Forms Library has not been cached, Outlook displays the error. The form is not cached in the Names File cache until the cache expires or times out.

Either lower the timeout or disable it.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Forms\ClassNamesCache

DWORD: Timeout

Value 1 - 24 (hours) - default is 24 hours. Try 1. (Decimal)

DWORD: Disabled

Value: 1

Thanks for the clarifications...i have the form working manually now. I have a question about getting the button/menu item placed however.

I can create a button for the macro easily enough, however is there a way to add the macros to the 'New' items list that is on the home ribbons?

The second part of this will be the distribution and configuration...The macros itself, but also (and likely more challenging) the button/icon/label/menu position configuration. What is the best way to deal with this?

BTW, it appears that the forums email system may want to check the configuration of the mail server IP in DNS. I was not receiving the post notifications, and checked the filtering and found the notifications were getting blocked as per the attached...Normally all mail servers have at least an A record if not a MX...

I have whitelisted the forums for now, but thought you should know

Yeah, I discovered yesterday that Hotmail was rejecting mail, saying an entire ip range was blocked. When i checked blacklists to see if the ip was listed, it came up clean. Best info i had was the ip is blocked because of rDNS. (Spammers pound the site and the contact us link, but AFAIK, they can't use the site to spam others on a grand scale - I was worried they found a way to get past the security.)

You can't add it directly to the New chunk, you can create a chunk next to the New chunk.

Distributing it is the hard part. If no one is using macros, it can be pushed out using a log on script - but to customize the ribbon automatically requires a com addin.

If you don't allow people to customize the ribbon you could push out a new custom ribbon, but AFAIK, importing will always replace the current ribbon layout.

I have done exactly what you describe, by creating a new group, however what I really want is to add it to a list, as in the image (as well as the button)...it's just a workflow thing. The list I have highlighted is where I am talking about, and would exist on ALL of the 'Home' tabs (there are several)

Getting this distributed is as important as anything else...I don't suppose that making this an addin is as simple as running a macro-to-addin converter?
I can't imagine any other way to do this if the button and location are different on every machine...

Diane

OK, thanks for the info...I guess the only option then is to do this via an addin. Can you advise what stepa need to be handled differently to accomplish my goal?

i am having problems with signature blocks being saved into the form instead of the typed text. Is there a way to disable the signatures on the form?

Please see the screenshots below...the first one is what I see when filling out the form and sending to myself (note that there is no signature). The second is what is received. The text that was typed into the message body is not there, and appears to be replaced by multiple copies of my signature.

I ran a test by sending to another user next to me, and what you see below is the result on their machine as well, so the form is not working from the message body perspective.
