Hi,

I have an Outlook 2010 user who sets his "Mark my comments with" with his name. The setting is retained after closing and re-opening Outlook, and it works fine. But when he restarts his computer, the setting is blank again, as if it hasn't been set at all. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this issue?

Hi,

The user received a new laptop. So it's a new build. I can't see any pending reboots, and there isn't any registry cleaners installed. I've created and tested a new Outlook profile, which didn't help. I've also repaired Office 2010, which also didn't help. I've read somewhere that clearing the registry key found associated with this feature, may fix the issue: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\MailSettings

(REG_BINARY) MarkCommentsWith=, but it didn't. I'm going to see if creating a new Windows profile will fix the issue. I'll post back here if it fixed the issue or not.

I've created the user a new Windows profile on the laptop, applied his name to the "Mark Comments With" in Outlook, rebooted, and the name was still there. I thought the problem was resolved, then the user called back a day later and said it disappeared again. Anyone come across this issue? Anyone know what else I can try?

I thought I'd let everyone know what the cause of this users problem was. The companies logon script has a section where it runs a .reg file that overwrites the entire MailSettings key. Looks like it was created to set the Outlook font for everyone in the company, but whoever created it, didn't take into account the other settings stored under this key. I guess no-one else in the company makes use of this Outlook feature since only one person reported it.
