I have two email accounts with my ISP, and on one of them I am regularly being asked for my login details, ie Username and password. These are correct and I have added a tick in the appropriate box to remember password. It is NOT doing it on the other account. This does not happen all the time, but on average 2 or 3 times a day and just out of the blue this request will pop up. I re enter the details and my mail works fine for a few hours and then it will happen again. Very frustrating and any help on this would be appreciated. Just for information I have tried using Thunderbird for a few days in lieu of 2010 and mail worked perfectly, so it appears as though it is an Office issue.

Are they pop3 accounts? Do you have a smartphone or another computer also checking email? Outlook puts a lock on the mailbox when it checks mail and that can cause this error.

Thanks for the quick response, yes it is POP 3 and no, there are no other computers or devices checking for email.

Does it only come up on that second account?

That is the really strange thing, it only occurs on the first account!!

In the screenshot it's the second acct - exfso - but it doesn't matter - it's only happening on one.

How frequently are you checking for email? No more frequently than 5 - 8 minutes is recommended.
Does this also happen in Safe mode? To open Outlook in Safe mode: Close Outlook then hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon. You'll get a message asking if you want to start in Safe mode. Click Ok.

The exfso2 is the primary account, and this is the one it occurs on. I have not tried safe mode as I would have to leave it on safe mode all day, not sure if that would affect the mail handling at all? I must admit I have the frequency set on 3 minutes, so I will change that setting.

I have just reloaded Outlook in safe mode as requested and will see what happens.

Dang. Was that about how long it normally goes before the dialog comes up?

I don't know if logging would help identify the problem or not.

It is definitely a strange one. I actually got the message on the other email account today, and this is a first, never had that happen before.!!!!!

It would appear as though my ISP may be the culprit, as now I am getting the same issues using Mozilla Thunderbird. My webmail at my ISP is not working properly and now they have a notice when one rings in that webmail is having issues. At on stage today I was receiving emails 4 hrs after they were sent to me, so obviously something was badly amiss with their servers/system. I will continue to monitor. If this is the problem, it has taken me weeks to get it into their thick skulls that they have email issues with servers or whatever. Obviously my outlook was "timing out" checking for mail and causing grief, but as I said I will monitor what happens. Thanks for the assistance so far, I hope that this is the finish, but there could still be as sting in the tail of this problem, but I hope not.
