Outlook 2010 messages freeze in outbox, do not autosave, then disappear after Outlook locks up

We are running Exchange 2003 and have had every version of Outlook on it since 2000. We just recently finished putting everyone on 2010 and at least 7 users have reported this problem.

I see a couple issues. For some random reason a message will logjam the outbox. Auto save to drafts is the default 3 minutes but I get complaints of " I worked on that email for 20-30 minutes" and it's not in the drafts folder. Then it logjams in the outbox. Then Outlook will lock up altogether and upon re-launch all the logjammed messages are gone. Not in sent, drafts, deleted, or even outbox anymore. We had none of these issues on 2007 so I'm wondering if it's Outlook 2010 specific. mail gets cleaned upstream with exchange hosted services and the server itself is running antigen. I'm not concerned so much with the messages logjamming in Outlook but more with the fact that it's not autosaving, going to drafts and not there in the outbox upon rebooting.

I guess that's the long way of saying I can go figure out why messages aren't going out, but not auto deleting and nowhere to be found.

thanks in advance....

Jeff

anybody? since I've asked the question we uninstalled Antigen. Sometimes the icon can be right clicked and " cancel server request" will make Outlook usable again, but more often than not Outlook locks up and messagest just disappear. None of this behavior was present when everyone was on Outlook 2007 so I'm wondering if the way Outlook 2010 works has a difference somewhere that is causing this problem....

Have you had any luck with this issue. I am expreiencing the exact same issue. Any update from your side will be very helpfull.

Thank you.

You are using Antigen too? Problems like this are often related to client side AV addins.

If messages just get stuck in the outbox (but not get lost), do they only get stuck if you look in the outbox?

We are using Symantec AV. Disabled all the Add-ins for Symantec, and still gets the same problem randomly.

The messages will be stuck in the outbox, and if we try to do a send and receive, then outlook will freeze. Once we close it and reopen it again, the message will be gone and can't find them anywhere.

This is causing a lot of problem here since users don't remember which email were replied to sent today.

Thank you.

Symantec as in Endpoint? Actually, it wouldn't be endpoint because it doesn't support 2010 (SEP uses exchange server extensions) Endpoint caused a lot of problems though.

Are the messages getting sent? Do you see them if you log in using OWA? I've seen weird issues when Outlook's cache doesn't properly update.

I would delete the ost and let outlook create a new one and see if that works. Test it with a couple of users and see if it works.

I have had the same issue twice now.
Both times it was with Outlook 2013 where the users had email in outbox and after restarting Outlook due to email not going out, the emails were not in outbox, drafts, or sent. they were GONE!
Never seen this with Exchange/Outlook where data was lost.
We have Exchange 2010 and the user was running Windows 8.1 pro.

From reading other users who had this issue seems to be a client side issue.
We have stopped upgrading people to Office 2010 & 2013 since it seems to be the issue.

Here is another thread mentioning this issue on the MicroSoft Techcenter forums: LINK

is Outlook offline when this happens? When you use cached mode, the messages aren't getting uploaded to the server for some reason - which is why you can't find them. The cause could be a corrupt ost file. Have you deleted the ost and let outlook rebuild it?
