Hi: We have a server 2008R2 x64 bit. The DC is an server 2008sp2. Single domain.local On trying to install Exchange 2010 we get a series of errors:

1. AD doesn't exist or cannot be contacted

2. must be a member of organization Management role or enterprise admins

3. The credential for machine|Administrator is not on bind

4. The user is not logged on to a windows domain.

DCDiag >> no errors. Have read through a lot of posts with these errros but most apply to server 2003 where there were tools used not available in 2008. Help is greatly appreciated. Chris

Hi Chris,

Have you prepared the Active Directory prior installing exchange 2010?

If not, you may read through this guide .

Hi

You can just ping your DC(s) and do a nslookup to see if they answer correct

And then follow MT's suggestion to prepare AD

Keep us updated :)

Hi

I'm missing something very basic with " Administrator" privileges, binding etc. We have been following the above guide and Train Signal Exchange videos to-the-letter to prepare the AD but nothing even installs except the management tools command. The setup commands are rejected. No ping problems. It might help if we saw how the AD tree looks after Exchange 2010 is installed on a sample company. Any guides on that would be great. Thank you Chris

Refer from ADUC, is administrator listed as group member of all required permissions such as SchemaAdmins, with Enterprise Admins and Domain Admins groups. Add administrator into the group member and re-run the AD preparation.

Hi Have already physically added Administrator in all groups everywhere referenced in the Exchange documentation. Have come across posts to this same issue I'm having [Exchange 2003/2007/ server 2003] where the user cache was the issue and I am not sure how to address those types of issues but that remains a possibility. Any advice on that is appreciated as well. Chris

Hello Chris,

Are you installing Exchange 2010 on the same server that is a domain controller? if this is a different member server, please post the complete ipconfig /all

Make sure the domain controller is a global catalog server

make sure DNS is functioning well dcdiag /test:dns

You donot need to manually add admin to all these groups as exhange 2010 will do this automatically as long as the account you are using is and administrator and a member of the schema/enterprise admins group

I saw this error when installing SP1 last night. Things to remember (since you have confirmed connectivity with your DC .. assuming you checked the same DC that is listed in C:\ExchangeSetupLogs)

Your account is a domain admin

Your account is an enterprise admin

Your account is a schema admin

Your account is a local admin for the server in question.

Your Schema Master FSMO is in the same site as the server you are doing the schemaprep from.

Thank you for such prompt replies. Chris

This error can be fixed by resetting the administrator password and rebooting the server.
