Problem with images not appearing in emails.

Images are not appearing in emails I am receiving. I set my outgoing messages to HTML and this fixed the problem for message I send, but cannot find the place to set replies to HTML. Or do you think there is something else that is causing this problem?
 
Try the steps below.

Click on tools-> trust center-> automatic download-> uncheck the box which says "don"t download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items". Then close and reopen Outlook and check.

[FONT=Segoe UI, Lucida Grande, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]I have tried all the usual suggestions, reset IE9, unticked all the right boxes in all the right places but still it won't show pictures only the placeholder triangle, square and circle. I have Office 2010 and Win 7 Ultimate, all fully up-to-date. I can't help feeling that there is a registry setting somewhere obscure that's causing the problem. Is it significant that I don't see [/FONT]C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\ Content.Outlook\?
 
I have unticked all the boxes regarding picture placeholders in Word, Outlook main and message. I could and can still see hidden files & folders and C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files but Content.Outlook doesn't exist in that folder or anywhere else.
 
Type \content.outlook at the end of the path - can you see it now?

If not, Open Outlook, then open an attachment to a message. In Outlook 2010 and 2013, Outlook does a better job of cleaning up after itself and the folder won't exist unless it has something in it.
 
Yes, I can see it that way. There are 2 folders, GLR4VPLM & OOEZ68LB in there.
 
I have deleted both folders in Content.Outlook but it has made no difference to the visibility of pictures in Outlook.
 
You do have outlook set to download blocked content, correct? (Junk mail button > options) When content is blocked, you should have a red x & text that says to click to download.

This may not be a good example - the text is in the black cell too, but you can't see it. If the image is small, the text will be cut off and if its really small, you may not see the text.

Junk Mail Options are set to default. I get the square, circle and triangle in a box instead of the HTML picture I'm expecting. I haven't had any red X's.
