Beginner - Setting SMTP settings/travelling

Hello,

I hope this is not a really really really stupid question.

I am travelling and looking to host my business email 'info@mydomain.com' through my hotmail account, can I do this ?

Any help is appreciated. I have been looking at many pages, for longer that I'd like to say, tried a few things and am growing...older !

Help would be appreciated, thank you.

Do you need Hotmail to collect mail sent to that address or do you only need to use the Hotmail SMTP servers to send the messages?

Hotmail SMTP settings are here: http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/online-services-in-outlook/#hotmail - you need to go to http://sn125w.snt125.mail.live.com/mail/AccountList.aspx and configure the account to allow you to send from non-Hotmail address. However, messages sent through Outlook will save from hotmail address on behalf of work address.

It is possible to configure Hotmail to "pop" other mail servers and when you use the Hotmail interface, you can send using the other address. When you use Outlook to read Hotmail using POP3, you can configure it to always use either Hotmail or the work address, not both (easily).
 
thanks will try make that work tomorrow - I was hoping you would answer my question. If possible, i would like hotmail to handle directing incoming and outgoing mail from my domain address, formerly handled by my own ISP. Given that I am travelling, if I were able to use hotmail to handle directing my domain email through outlook that would be great. I'm not sure what interface I should use, or the user account or the password.

Well, you can certainly configure hotmai to collect your isp email then either read it in the hotmail interface or in Outlook. Replies and new messages from the isp account will be better online using the hotmail interface. You'll use the hotmail userame and password to connected to the hotmail servers.
