Sent Items not holding Newest on Top

I have a user who clicks on Sent Items and 50% of the time the list will begin with emails dated "approximately" six months ago, even though the view is set for Arranged by Date Newest on Top. There does not appear to be a pattern as to when this will happen. 50% of the time he opens the Sent Items and the most current is at the top of the list. Why does this happen?
 
Yes, we have tried changing the view, did not see the problem reoccur in a different view, but the user wants the normal list view and changed it back fairly quickly. It only occurs about 50% of the time and when it occurs, initially the other sent items which occurred "after" the six months old date are not visible. If we click several times back and forth between the Inbox and the Sent items, the view will eventually reset itself back to normal and we can see the more recent Sent items.
 
It sounds like it's definitely a corrupt view. Is the user using a customized view? Have you Reset the view (View tab > Reset View).

If the user doesn't have custom views, try restarting Outlook using the /cleanviews switch.
