I'm installing Outlook on a new laptop. The first thing after launching is asking me for my
username & password. My hotmail email address is already filled in. I haven't created a
password.

At the top of the window is
Connecting t 0001( lots of numbers) ending in @hotmail.com.

I don't know what it's asking for. o

I really want to get my outlook up and running.

Please advise ....

can you post a screenshot of the window? If you have an address that is not a Microsoft-owned domain, you'll see weird stuff, but those addresses end in outlook.com, not Hotmail.

Are you using auto account setup to add the account? Do you have all updates installed for office? Hotmail (outlook.com) is now running on Exchange server and you need to use auto account setup if you want to sync calendar & contacts - manual setup for pop3 or imap.

Attached is a screen shot. Please keep in mind that I am not trying to add an email
account rather I am trying to setup Outlook after installing Office 2007.

My email is a hotmail account.

Attached are all the different windows that pop up. Hope you can help.
This is a brand new HP laptop running Win 10

Thank you for your assistance. FYI I'm not a bog techie. :)

Do you have all office updates installed? #2 and 3 are classic symptoms of not having the required updates installed. You need them to connect outlook 2007 to outlook.com/office 365 exchange unless you want to use imap or pop3, which are email only.

#1 kinda looks like you might have a non-Microsoft owned domain as an alias on the account, but it's not in the typical format (of outlook_ugly@outlook.com) so it could just be part of the same issue.

Note that as of October 31 2017, you won't be able to connect outlook 2007 to the account as Exchange - they are retiring RPC over HTTPS protocol and outlook 2007 doesn't support MAPI over HTTPS. At that point you'll either need to upgrade or use pop or imap.

Thank you for your help. I think the updates may be the issue. Now my question is how do I get the
updates for my Outlook ver. 12.0.4518.1014.
I've been to Microsoft site and it's not clear which update I need. Is there a command to request updates
within windows 10 or Office?
Thanks in advance ......

I downloaded and install the SP3 updates and my Outlook version is now 12.0.66071000. Just shy of your 12.0.6680.5000
or later requirement.

Where do I find the the update to take me to the higher version?

Sorry for all the post. I've been able to update Outlook to 12.0.6680.5000.
Still asks for password and will not accept it. Can't get any further than
that. :(

I'm assuming you removed the account and added it back?
(no I did not remove the account. How do you do that?)

Got the attached from Office 365 Desktop Setup Tool

If outlook opens, go to tools, account settings and remove the account then add it back. If outlook won't open, open control panel, mail and remove the account and then add it back.

The message from the utility may be because you are using a consumer account instead of a paid Office365 Business account. I'm not totally sure but that is my best guess because the utility it was made for the business accounts.

I've done so much tweaking I'm thinking I should uninstall office and start from scratch.
If I do that will the install just repopulate the program with the old data?

YooHoo!!!!

I got it working. Removing and adding the new account was the final tweak.
Thank you so much for your patience.
If I upgrade to a later version will I have to go through all this again?

BTW the ability to load pics on your site is the best I've ever come across on the net.
Congrats on that and thank you again.

if you upgrade the accounts should migrate, options and other customizations will remain.
