Using The Non-Office Subscription Copy of Office

My wife and I purchased the copy of MS Office 2024 that comes with OL, Word, Excel & P and does NOT require an Office subscritpion biut is like in teh old days before subscription services. You pay for a copy eh software, you get a key code to install and viola. The problem is after installing when my wife then tried to use Excel it was asking for her to sign into her MS account. This is a little frustrating b/c we don't want to have to have any kind of accounts or the like.

Is anyone familiar with this and know how we can avoid having to log in to MS to use the software?
 
It's either asking for OneDrive or to activate. Is office activated? Check in file > Account - on the top right. If it's activated, then it's for OneDrive - that is the top left of the same page. You don't need to sign into OneDrive, although some settings are stored in OneDrive.

The perpetual version key is redeemed in the Microsoft account. They made this change a few years ago. With perpetual 2016, you could choose to redeem it in the Microsoft account or not but if not, you needed to keep the key card should you need to repair or reinstall. A lot of people didn't - saving it in the Microsoft account avoids this. Just log in and download then sign in.

It's frustrating when software requires an account for use, especially when you paid for a standalone version.
 
It stores the key so you are less likely to lose it. But you need to remember the Microsoft account address and password - if the address is not an outlook.com address, they should offer to send a sign in link to the address, so you only need to keep that address active. (That means don't use an address that you could lose - like a work address or one you never log into.)

Once activated, you don't need to use the account. But if it keeps asking to sign into OneDrive in office, you could sign in - you aren't required to use OneDrive.

I do not recommend setting OneDrive to "backup" your documents and other folders - for starters, you only have 5 GB if its a free account and most people have more docs than that. But if you sign into OneDrive it will set up backup if you click through the dialogs too fast without reading.
