Here is the scenario.

I have a mailbox that needs data restored from it.

The Exchange backup of the mailbox was performed on a Exchange Server that

was uninstalled. The mailbox in question was moved to a new exchange server

after the backup had taken place.

Is it possible to mount a RSG on the new exchange server, redirect my backup

to the new server and extract the data that way?

If not could I build a exchange server with the same name as the Original

server and restore data to a RSG on that server?

I've read the RSG qhite paper but I am finding it a little confusing.

Hi there,

2003:

You can mount the database on the original server, or any other Exchange

Server in the SAME Administrative Group.

2007:

Database Portability allows the database to be mounted on any other Exchange

Server, not just as part of a Recovery Storage Group.

So I could just redirect the database restore to the RCG on the new server?

I think it is either 4.0 or 5.0, then again maybe it is 2003......

Exchange 2003 and on have support for RSG's. You can mount Exchange 2000

SP3+ databases however on an Exchange 2003 Server, but again it must be in

the same Administrative Group.
