Hi,

a topic, discussed in various forums, but despite trying out suggestions I found there, the problem is still there.

The problem:

Since switching to daylight savings time. meeting requests from one client appear 2! hours too early in my calendar. I' running Windows 7 Prof. 64 bit and outlook 2010 32 bit. Time zone in outlook/windows is set at UTC +1:00 and "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings time" is checked.

Below is the .ics attachment of the meeting request when viewed directly at my email host provider (only personal data marked xxx):

If I read the file correctly, then

- client timezone is defined as "GMT Standard Time"

- difference of timezone to UTC is 0:00h

- the meeting starts at 6:30 GMT Standard Time

- i.e. at 6:30 UTC und therefore should appear at 8:30 in my calendar, because my timezone including daylight savings time is 2 hours ahead of UTC. However Outlook 2010 displays the meeting at 6:30 instead of 8:30.

Can't figure out why.

My head hurts from thinking about it. <g> Time zone issues can be confusing unless you have two computers you can test with, with on set to the other zone.

Which zone are you using? When did DST kick in? You have Win7, so you have the latest and greatest time zone definitions but I've seen weirdness the week DST kicks in and also during march involving people using old computers that haven't been updated with the new TZ definitions.

Which outlook do you use?

Do you have any idea about what outlook and OS the organizer uses? It's not Win7 because of the GMT reference - Win7 uses UTC.

Does Amsterdam use DST and when does it kick in?

The body has the following - your outlook adds this when the zone is different than your own -

When: Mittwoch, 30. Mrz 2011 08:30-09:00 (GMT +01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna.

Where: xxxxxxxx

Note: The GMT offset above does not reflect daylight saving time adjustments

Your ics has:

DTSTART;TZID=GMT Standard Time:20110330T063000

DTEND;TZID=GMT Standard Time:20110330T070000

TZID:GMT Standard Time

TZOFFSETFROM:+0000

TZOFFSETTO:+0000

The code below was sent from Outlook 2007 on XP - The organizer's zone was set to Amsterdam, appoint is 8:30 am Ams. time. The recipient account is usng Outlook 2010 on Win7, in eastern time, DST in effect, so its on the calendar at 2:30 am.

TZID:W. Europe Standard Time

The TZ offsets are not right somewhere - I show a 1 or 2 offset from UTC, your ics shows 0. My initial guess is the organizer is not using the correct TZ and DST settings but I'll test it with your actual time zone and see what the ics shows.

Also, open the meeting in outlook and save as an ics -open it in notepad. I'm pretty sure you'll see the same TZID and offisets, but it's possible that its coming from your server.

some answers to your questions:

Which zone are you using?
(UTC+01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Rom, Stockholm, Wien

When did DST kick in?
Sunday, 27. March 2am

w Which outlook do you use?
Outlook 2010 32 bit (as part of office 2010 professional)

Do you have any idea about what outlook and OS the organizer uses?
I tested with two persons. One has Windows Vista built 6.002 and outlook 2007, the second has Win7 and outlook 2010

Does Amsterdam use DST and when does it kick in?
yes, see above

Also, open the meeting in outlook and save as an ics -open it in notepad. I'm pretty sure you'll see the same TZID and offisets
Here is the extract, when opened in outlook, saved as ics and opened in notepad.

DTSTAMP:20110329T164055Z

DTSTART;TZID="GMT Standard Time":20110330T053000

Interestingly, DTSTART is 5:30

And now a very strange finding:

As I said, I tested with two persons. Meeting requests received from both are displayed at the wrong time in my calendar. However, when I send a meeting request to them, it is displayed correctly in their calendar. So, the error occurs only in one direction but not in the other.

Because DST just kicked in - is the time correct if you open the meeting? Are you and your testers using the same view? If you use dual time zones, there is a view "bug" the week DST kicks in, it goes away if you start the week on monday or use daily views. Or use one time zone. (http://www.slipstick.com/calendar/dst_week.asp)

So both you and the organizer are using amsterdam tz?

No, time is still incorrect

Are you and your testers using the same view?
don't know, my testers left office for the weekend <g

I only use one tz, view in outlook is "work week" beginning on monday

So both you and the organizer are using amsterdam tz?

yes, but the client is a huge multinational company, so I guess, my testers have an exchange server account and the server could be anywhere
