Cached Exchange Mode and roaming users

Hello all,

I have a test environment consisting of a Exchange 2007 server and two workstations of WinXP and Office 2010.

I have found that, when I imitate users roaming from machine to machine, the following message pops up from time to time on starting Outlook:

Outlook is using an old copy of your outlook data file. Exit Outlook, delete the file. It will be automatically created next time you initiate a send/receive.

While deleting the OST file is not difficult, it is a nuisance to do this task constantly. How can this issue be solved, other than disabling the cached mode? Thanks for your advice in advance.

Outlook 2010 stored more data in the profile but the ost is stored on the local machine - your choices are disable cached mode, not use romaing profiles, or roam the ost. Roaming the ost is not practical if its very large though.

Thanks for your response.

First, I don't use roaming profile in my environment; after all, the OST file does not go with the roaming profile by default.

Roaming the OST is not practical ... I agree...

Disabling the cached mode altogether ... that's a viable option; but some of the Office 2010 features would also be disabled as a result.

So, does Microsoft ever think of a way that makes the lives roaming Exchange/Outlook users easier?
 
If you aren't using roaming (windows) profiles, how do the users roam? If you have an outlook profile for each machine, you shouldn't get the error as each profile is used only on one computer with its own ost. When you use roaming profiles, the ost is local to the computer but the profile sees that the ost is not the same as the last time you used outlook and kicks up the error.
 
Really? Turning on roaming profiles does help the problem I am facing?

No, i think i roaming profiles could be the cause, not the solution.
