Hi, well after all the problems with OL2000+Windows 7 and MS having removed the security updates for Office 2000, I decided to install Office 2010, I managed to get a copy from Software4students at their reduced price:);).

WOW, is this different (Complicated) from the OL2000, (simple and straightforward) but I suppose this is what they call 'progress'.

I use Mailwasher Pro to check on what's sitting in my inbox so I can delete anything I don't want before it ever hit my PC. In OL2000 I could switch off automatically sending and receiving when connected, I could then use Mailwasher to filter the emails then hit 'Send & Receive' in OL2000.

I cannot find a similar option in OL2010, but perhaps I have not found it yet, if so where would I find it?
For security I do not want to download anything without checking it first, having paid the price once before I do not want to repeat the experience.

Okay, Specsavers has a new appointment! Found it in Options/Advanced.

NEXT questions,

1. How do you remove the Date:Today, Date: Last Week, Date: Two weeks ago? I can easily see the dates they arrived and the additional Date: etc takes up a lot of line space.

2. Is it possible to select see pictures instead of a red X, or a lot of text stating I should right click to display them?

Glad you found the option you were looking for. Outlook 2010 isn't really any more complicated than outlook 2000, just improved, but it does have a learning curve thanks to the ribbon.

1. The groupings can be removed - click on the row of field names and (de)select Show in groups.

2. Yes. Click on the infobar where it says 'click here to download pictures' (under the subject in the message header area) and choose the option to change the download settings.

Thanks Diane.

Sorted the Date: issue, still took me a while to work out where the 'Field names' were!

As regards pictures I was wondering if there was an option to set 'show pictures' as a global option instead of needing to select each email in turn.

Sorry about that. :) I'll have to work on a better description of how to find that menu- maybe adding ' at the top of the message list' will help.

If you right click on the infobar and choose the option to "Change automatic download setting" you can set it to always show or always show for people in your address book.

In the screenshot: #1 - *right click* and choose Change download settings. That will open the dialog to the download settings dialog (#2). If you choose the Safe senders option, you can trust addresses in your address book, although most people won't send messages with blocked external content - its usually bulk mail that has blocked external content.
