Shared calendar appointments received as emails, stays in inbox!

The title is somewhat self-explanatory.

I share a calendar with some co-workers, and I receive one person's calendar appointments as e-mails. I've been told this should disappear after a while but it doesn't. This is driving me nuts, I have been asking for help with this for months and not getting any. I am not a computer expert at all but would appreciate it if someone can start pointing me in the right direction!!! I am also receiving duplicate e-mails of some of abovementioned appointments. We don't use Exchange.
