Can old calendar appointments that are in my delete folder ("Deleted Items") be "permanently" deleted and NOT cause those appointments to disappear from my calender?

I have appointments going back to 2010 and would like to keep many of those as a record on my calendar. The reason I would go into the deleted folder and get rid of them is that I am trying to transfer all of my Outlook (emails, contacts, calendar) to a new laptop that has limited memory (128GB before adding any programs or systems). I'd like to be able to have my documents, music and all of my old Outlook files on the laptop but already know there is not enough memory so I'm looking for places I can delete old files. I'd like to permanently delete ALL of the files (especially old emails that often have attachments) in the deleted folder without having to sort for just those but fear I might lose appointments in my calendar.

I have Office/Outlook 2010 on both my old laptop where I would delete the files and also have installed Office 2010 on the new laptop.

I hope I have been clear and appreciate any help or advise you can provide.
 
Rather than delete the old appointments, archive them. Keep the archive on the old computer that has the larger drive. The appointments won't be visible on the new computer but you will have them on the old one.

Or... you can use a filter when you export appointments from the old computer to a pst so only newer items transfer.

Thank you for the reply, Diane. So if I read your message right...if I permanently delete the old appointments in my deleted folder, YES, they will not be transferred with the .pst file when I import it to the new computer? So if I want everything on the new computer, I need to leave them there on the old computer before I export to a .pst file?

It is a long story, but the old computer will not be available for me to look at if I should need to check old calendars. Sounds like I need to find another way to free up memory and/or put more memory on the new laptop.
 
Yeah, if the old computer is not available, you can't delete the appointments. You could unsubscribe some IMAP folders, however it affects all computers that have the account configured as IMAP - not a problem if you only use one computer. (Use web access to view mail in folders not subscribed).

You can set outlook to not download full messages - only messages you actually look at will be downloaded. This can reduce the size of the data file but makes it hard to work offline.

Outlook 2013 has an option to only sync xx months of mail - this feature was added to address just this sort of problem.
