Outlook 2021 all appointments not showing in calendar

whenever I have more than one appontment in a day the appointments don't show in Month view. I get the day and a +2 at the bottom, see screenshot. I would like to be able to see all appointments for the day without having to go to day view.

That happens in the window is too small - if outlook is maximized, the ribbons set to tabs only, Quick Access Toolbar above the ribbon and still does see more, drag the mouse over 2 or 3 weeks in the thumbnail calendar.

That works fine for me. It doesn't work as good as always being up to date when I open a calendar but if I select a month and highlight the dates on the left the calendar does show the appointments instead of the +2 etc.
