How do I keep my old PST file as default

I recently added an exchange server account to my outlook. Outlook selected this account as my default, and now all of my calendars and appointments are not working properly. I have 4 accounts assigned to my outlook and would like to continue using my current PST file, however, I can no longer keep my PST file as the default. I can make any other file default (including the OST file), but not my original PST. I believe this is because my file is from an older version of Outlook and I have been importing into new versions of outlook for years.

Is this the case? And if so, is it safe to import all of that data (about 1gb) into a newer PST file to correct this problem?

Do you get any error messages when you try to set it as default? If you Add a new pst file, can you set it as default? If so, import the old pst into the new default pst.

It is safe to import the contents of the old pst. Custom views and custom forms won't import, but that's only a problem if you are using either and if the old pst is ansi, you need to move the contents into a Unicode pst.
