Outlook 2010 IMAP stalls/hangs on email deletes

Hi Diane,

Since moving to Outlook 2010 IMAP with iCloud vs 2010 with Pop3, I find when deleting email there's a 10-15 sec lag on the 1st delete, whether it's one email or 5 selected, then subsequent deletes "only" take 1-2 sec. With Pop3 it was virtually immediate. it's not the PC since it's the same on my brand new i5 4670k running at 4.2GHz as my old 3GHz PC. sometimes Outlook will hang for 30 sec with an "Outlook is not responding" msg. if I wait long enough, it snaps out of it's funk.

Is this normal with IMAP, or is there a setting I have wrong?

BTW, my internet is 3meg ATT Uverse running at about 2.8meg.

It's not normal. It won't be as fast as pop3 because it needs to delete it from the server, but it should be faster than that.

What are your delete settings? Try marking for deletion and purge on folder change.

OK, thanks. just made the change. it will take a day or so to see if any difference. I may have it set this way before seeing the lag but did not understanding the settings.

That did it. the actual deletes on the server are virtually undetectable now. Thank you!!!
