What exactly does the BCM Database tool actually do?

Hello,

I was hoping someone could tell me what exactly the BCM Database Tool does when adding a new user to a shared database. I wanted to make a 'BCM Users' security group and add that instead but I noticed you could only add users accounts through the tool's interface. I'm just wondering if I will break functionality somehow if I just add the security group directly to the database users through SQL Management Studio instead. Does the BCM Database Tool add entries to the tables or something I don't know about?

I dont think it does anything but set permissions. You can add the group directly to the database.

Good question, JBC. I have another along these same lines:

Diane, do you know if the database tool's backup function is any different than doing a backup through Management Studio?

AFAIK, it is the same as using the SMS, but for most users, easier and doesn't require the SMS.
