OUTLOOK 2007 FREEZES. WILL NOT SEND NOR RECEIVE

Outlook 2007 sends and receives without issue for extended periods (2-3 months). Then a password dialog box will pop up intermittently. Over time the password dialog box pops up with annoying frequency eventually is on continuously, freezing sending/receiving e-mails. Could this be an Outlook profile problem?
