Can someone explain syncing with Outlook and Gmail

Since I have added my Gmail email to my Outlook 2010 I've noticed something I've never seen before in Outlook 2010. I had an email address from a ISP so when I checked my mail manually or as Outlook checks every minute., it took a second if that long and all was sent and received unless there was a large file attached.

Now I noticed that with Gmail in Outlook there is syncing of folder's and it seems like it takes minutes to check mail. is syncing normal with Gmail on Outlook? Instead of seeing my email send and receive I get a whole list of things like the attached screenshot shows.

Sorry for all the questions lately but trying to Transition from my old ISP email to my Gmail account.

Thank you for your reply and also the link. I will read it, so far comparing Outlook to Gmail on my browser it seems that I am getting my mail. It's just the difference of how Outlook is working with Gmail that caught my attention.

I did further investigating about the send/receive mail being so slow due to the syncing. I found this,

Step 1: Make sure POP is the best way to read your emails

IMAP and POP are both ways to read your Gmail messages in other email clients. IMAP can be used across multiple devices. Emails are synced in real time. POP can only be used for a single computer.

Since I only use Outlook 2010 on my desktop computer, not my iPhone, iPad etc. So would setting up Gmail on Outlook 2010 as a pop3 account resolve the problem I am having. slow send/receive due to syncing?
