Syncing Outlook notes with ios

I'm a little late to the party, but after getting a new iphone discovered that since apple made notes capable of multimedia in ios 9/itunes 12, it also prevented syncing with *local* outlook. What are the suggested methods of syncing Notes? I've looked into akruto (expensive), and the online sync with icloud and/or outlook.com. Onenote? Is there really no way of avoiding online storage for syncing? Thanks.
P.S. Once the iphone Notes have munged all the plain-text fields to the new file format, is there a way of un-munging them?
 
If you use an outlook.com account, that would be my preference - outlook's icloud addin won't sync notes. Yeah, if you want/need sync, you are limited to using online storage.

As for cleaning up the mess, i will look at how they are munged, but the only way to fix them would be manually editing or a macro. Depending on the munging, either might only be a temporary solution and syncing will only munge them again.
 
You're amazing with your rapid responses after all this time!

1) I and a number of others (judging by forum posts) would rather sync just locally and not have any info go out to the cloud, because of concerns of privacy, security, and intermittent poor web access. I understand Apple has blocked third party apps from syncing through itunes, but some apps can still sync locally (akruto, connectlink, docstogo).

2) By "munging" I mean as of ios 9 and their addition of richer media, apple turned the notes from plain text into html, turned hard returns into spaces, and added the capability for additional html formatting of the first line of a note:

:) After more or less ignoring this forum for a few weeks because I was 1) very busy and 2) not getting the email alerts of new messages. (Fixed the alerts last night, but looking for longer days.)

Yeah, plus it seemed to be more stable, less problematic that icloud... and if you are using pop3/imap and not using the icloud account for email (or outlook.com), it was easier to sync direct rather than through the cloud.

ah - didn't realize they did that to notes. (It was common on calendar & contact bodies until they turned off rich text formatting for those two.)

part of the problem is that they are using the imap notes function - which is email with some magic so it doesn't appear as a draft.

I will test it here and see if there is anything we can do.
