Using 2010 and my profile might be a bit old as I'm frightened of refreshing them
Ive been having lots of problems lately with outlook 2010 hanging whilst send receive is active
Done lots of pst repair particularly when Ive had to hard reset
I'm now being told
  1. my pst is too big - its 6.8 gb when ms says up to 50gb for 2010
  2. i need a new profile
  3. suddenly my office registration is not complete
  4. cant archive because of mixed data from a previous version of office
i hate doing all these new things as things invariably go bad, but getting kinda desperate

What do guys reckon?

1. 6.8 is big, but shouldn't cause outlook to be overly slow. How much is in the Inbox? since it's the folder you probably live in, it should be smaller - under 5000 messes is my goal. Move messages to a 'completed' folder as you are finished with them - you can use a Quick Step for this.

2. I'd delete the srs file as the first step. How many accounts are in your profile? Type or paste %appdata%\microsoft\outlook in the address bar of windows explorer and press Enter to open the folder where the srs file is. The file is 'send and receive settings' so if you have a lot of accounts, you may need to adjust the S&R settings.

Oh, and how frequently are you doing a send and receive? 5 - 8 minutes is a good recommendation. Avoid 1 or 2 minutes.

3. Not sure I understand this problem - is it losing Activation or something else?

4. Wild guess - the archive pst is an old ANSI format created in an older version of Outlook. You'll need to make a new pst to archive to. Otherwise, everything in the data file should be archivable.

Do you have any addins? Look in File, Options, Addins (or Options, Trust Center, Addins)

Ive got loads of folders and rules so my inbox isn't that big. But I did have major heart surgery earlier in the year, so my backlog is really time consuming to reduce. Circa 600 non urgent messages currently in inbox

Wow in all my years as an outlook user I'd never heard of this srs file

yes, couldn't solve it with your suggestions and cant find my paperwork from 2.5 yrs ago and the company went into bancruptcy!
so decided to buy office 2013 and will install it over the next few days, when Ive straightened out these issues

Scuse my slowness here, but in what order?
how do you archive when it wont archive?
can i migrate over the folder settings or do they have to be recreated one by one?
