Does Outlook indexing work across multiple servers?

I have a user who insists on running multiple very large PST archive files in Outlook.

He uses search functionality almost constantly, and is not someone who can be convinced to change his way of working.

So, for years the user has had used a single dedicated terminal server to access his work - no problem. Having switched to a multi-server environment, indexing naturally has to start from scratch when opening the PSTs.

However, when he logs back in (invariably to a different server), we find that the indexing is at a different stage. The number of items shown as remaining to index can go up or down ranging from hundreds of thousands of items to just tens of thousands.

I'm making the assumption that indexing of PSTs is not handled on Exchange, and actually stored somewhere within the users profile on the server itself. When he logs in to another server, it's essentially starting again.

Question - is there a preferred method of setting up Outlook in terms of centralising it's indexing processes when multiple front end servers are involved?
