I installed Outlook 2013 after reinstalling Windows 7. It found the old Outlook 2010 pst files and automatically set itself up using them. But the Suggested Contacts is empty. Any ideas how to get them back? Thanks

The regular Contacts are all there, so it seems like it must be using the correct pst.

I see now that next to Suggested Contacts in the folder list, it shows the name of the secondary pst file, not the one that was main account. But in Account Settings, it shows the main account as the default data file and the default data file. Is there a way to make the Suggested Contacts use the main pst file?

I tried switching the default data file to the secondary pst and then back the main pst, but that did not help. Also if I right click on Suggested Contacts and select Properties, it says the location is the secondary pst. Need to get it to use the main pst I suppose, but can't figure out how. Thanks

I uninstalled Outlook 2013. Then I moved the secondary pst out of the Outlook Files folder so it is out of the picture. I also replaced the main pst with a backup copy I had made before I installed Outlook 2013 the first time. Reinstalled Outlook, now under Contacts it does not show Suggested Contacts at all. Any ideas? Thanks

I thought I found a fix. I used the Import function, directed it to the backup copy I have of the primary pst. Told it to import Suggested Contacts from there, into the same folder. It took about 60 seconds, had some kind of progress indicator that moved along, and while it was doing this it showed Suggested Contacts in the folder list. But when it completed, Suggested Contacts disappeared from the folder list. As a test, I sent an email out to see if it would create the Suggested Contacts in the folder list, but it is still not showing. But if I create another email to that same address, it does autocomplete the address, so perhaps the Suggested Contacts are, but are not showing up?

OK I just did some searching and found a post you had made saying they have removed suggested contacts in 2013. Shouldn't it have created it since the old pst file from 2010 had Suggested Contacts? and what about the import I did? Are the Suggested Contacts in there possible and not being shown?

I decided to test if it would autocomplete an address previously sent to but not in Contacts. I looked into her Sent folder, found 3 addresses like that. When I start typing those addresses in a new email, it does complete them. So it looks like all is ok now. I am wondering is it like this because I did the import mentioned above, or would it have been like that on its own? And where is this data stored now, if not in a Suggested Contacts list. Thanks

Outlook 2013 doesn't use Suggested Contacts - if the folder is in the data file, it will use it as an address book, but the Suggested Contacts function is gone from Outlook - it was a one hit wonder. You can't make it use the default data file, but if there are contacts in the suggested folder you want to keep, you can move them to the contacts folder or drag the folder to the new data file. Heck, you could set the old data file as default... but outlook 2013 won't add to the suggested contacts.

If you kept the same profile, Outlook 2013 picks up the autocomplete list used by the old version of outlook.

In most cases - especially when you only change 1 version - it's better to keep the old data file instead of importing it to a new data file. If you skip a few versions then a importing to a new pst created by the new version could be beneficial.

Thanks for the info. So on a clean installation of Outlook (ie creating a new pst rather than using an old one) where does Outlook 2013 keep the autocomplete information? Is there a way to view it, or export if needed? Thanks
