I want my OST file permanently deleted

I have 3 email accounts setup via IMAP. I had an issue with outlook and had to reconnect 2 of the 3 and now there are 5 email accounts. I want to remove the 2 extra ost file permanently, but whenever you delete the ost file as soon as outlook starts up it recreated them. Can you help me find out how this can be accomplished ?

Is the ost file listed in File, Account Settings, Data File tab? The 16,xxx KB files are blank, which makes sense since Outlook isn't syncing to them.

Yes they are. I've tried to remove them from there but it says that "this data file is associated with a mail account. To remove it use the email tab." When I remove them from the from the email file they reappear when reopening Outlook.

It sounds like the profile is corrupt. There are a few things you can try:

1. Open file, Account Settings and select one account with the ghost pst. Click Repair button. Repeat for other account.

2. If that fails, you might be able to edit the registry to remove the ghost files... see http://www.outlook-tips.net/how-to/delete-outlook-ghost-psts/ for instructions and a link to a program that may remove them - because they are associated with the imap account, it might not work.

3. Try removing the 2 accounts and make sure the pst files are gone from the profile, restart Outlook and add the accounts back.

4. If all else fails, you'll need to make a new profile.

Tried the options unfortunately no go. I created a new profile, but did learn a thing or two while performing your suggestions. Thank you.

Did the new profile get rid of the ghost files?
