Using iCLoud Contacts for Outlook Email

I use Outlook 2010 for email, calendar and contacts and an iPhone 5. Outlook has several contact lists: Under the Folder "My Contacts" is "Suggested Contacts - Outlook", "Contacts", and "Contacts from iCloud". Under the Folder "iCloud" is "Contacts - iCloud".

When entering or editing contacts on the iPhone, those changes appear (sync) in "Contacts - iCloud" in Outlook. When starting a "New Email", I cannot find that contact list (address book) in the drop down box, as if it's not there.

I've checked Properties in each Contact List ("Contacts from iCloud" under "My Contacts"; and "Contacts - iCloud" under "iCloud". -- note the similar but different folder names depending on if it's under "My Contacts" or "iCloud"), and both have checked the box in box to "show the folder as an email address book". When selecting the folder "Contacts - iCloud" it shows the EMAIL TYPE as "Mobile" and only shows phone numbers.

In Outlook I've also selected "Address Book" on "Home" tab, "Tools - Options" and in the Drop Down "when opening the Address Book, show this address book first....." and select "iCloud - Contacts", and it appears to have selected the correct Address Book, but it's actually presenting contacts from "Contacts from iCloud"....and NOT "iCloud - Contacts".

This is confusing, even to try to describe. In a nutshell, my iPhone updates/edits contacts that sync with "Contacts - iCloud", but Outlook cannot find the email addresses.

Contacts from iCloud is a backup copy of your contacts that were created when you signed out of icloud and told it to make a local copy of the contacts. Review the folder and if everything in it is duplicated or no longer needed, delete it (use Shift + Delete to remove it completely.)


These are your "good" contacts:
"Suggested Contacts - Outlook" - this is a cache of people you email but don't have in contacts. You can disable the feature but not remove the folder in Outlook 2010.

"Contacts" - Outlook's Contacts folder. This should be empty after installing iCloud.

"Contacts - iCloud" - stored in iCloud, synced to Outlook.

Delete the contacts from iCloud folder and try again. The folders should be identical (as of when it was created) - so it might just look that way.
