POP3 vs iMAP?

I want to set up my email so that mail deleted from my phone or laptop is still available for me to see on my home PC, but mail I delete from the home PC (which uses Outlook 2016) will be gone from the other two. It's my understanding that this would require I set up the home machine as POP3 and the portables as iMAP. But when I checked this with my ISP, they said the opposite.

Right now, everything is iMAP. What happens if I switch the home machine to POP3?
 
if the devices are imap, when you delete from the device before outlook downloads pop, it will be deleted from the server. They would need to be pop too

switching outlook to imap and the devices to pop will also work - it might actually work better. Or you can use pop on all.
