2010 Personal Folders Question

I sync my iPhone 4 with Outlook. I wish I could get away from this, but it's the only way I can find to place new appointments and contacts into Outlook as I'm entering them throughout the day on the phone without forgetting to do it manually on my PC. I have found the whole calendar thing very confusing with all of the different calendars that pop up in OL.

Anyway, before the whole iCloud thing I could click on Personal Folders and I would see an Outlook Today screen with my calendar, tasks, and messages. No when I do that I don't see any of my calendar items ( I can only see whats in my calendar by clicking on calendar under the iCloud folder). Any suggestions in clearing up all this confusion are greatly appreciated.

The Outlook Today Screen shows the appointments in the default folder. Icloud syncs with the icloud folder... if you want to see the appointments in Outlook today, you need a sync tool, like the new one from codetwo, to sync the icloud folder to outlook's default folder. Okay, I got the addins installed. When I first installed them yesterday morning thing seemed to be working, but now the calendar folders are not syncing. I first noticed the problem when I clicked on Personal Folders to get a look at the Outlook Today screen and nothing was showing under Calendar. I then clicked on Calendar under Personal Folders in the left pane - nothing. Then I clicked on Calendar under iCloud in the left pane - nothing. However, when I click on the Calendar tab in the lower-left pane I can see my appointments. My work calendar is coming up as the default and there are also iCloud calendar and personal calendar tabs. In the left pane, only the iCloud boxes are checked, not the Personal box. Tasks and contacts are syncing fine. When I click on the Settings tab on the toolbar, I can see where the sync for the calendars is set. Any suggestions.

Oh, off topic, but is there a way to customize the calendars so I don't get the pastel backgrounds but just white? THanks!
 
I'll let D. handle the icloud question, she uses it, i don't.

On the calendar question, you can set colors for the calendar but white is not one of the available colors. :(

Okay, thanks. This is becoming very very frustrating. I have noticed when I tap the Synchronize button, every task is duplicated in OL, but not the iPhone. Also, now I have noticed some appointments in my calendar are appearing in the OL Today screen, but others are not. Also, now a lot of my appointments are duplicated in OL if I have the My Calendars and Calendar boxes checked. If I uncheck them and only the iCloud calendars boxes are checked, then there are not duplicates checked. Is there any way to simplify things so there is only one calendar in OL istead of a whole bunch? This is driving me nuts. Thanks.
 
The Outlook today screen only shows the appointments that are in the default Outlook calendar.

The calendar navigation pane will show all of the calendars in your profile - it's normal to see 'duplicates' if both the default calendar and the icloud calendars are selected - but you'll only have duplicates if the appointment is on outlook today and in the icloud.

There is not a good way to simplify things and have items in both Outlooktoday/to-do bar and also in the icloud. I recommend viewing one calendar or the other in outlook, not both.

Diane,

I guess my next question then is how do I merge the default calendar with the iCloud calendar? I must have inadvertently done it earlier because appointments I had entered in the phone were showing in the OL Today screen, but I started tinkering with the calendars and now I can't seem to figure out what I did. Thanks.

The icloud Refresh button is supposed to keep the icloud and default folders in sync - it doesn't always work though. That's why Code Twp wrote their icloud sync utility.

I may need to uninstall and reinstall the sync tool then. I downloaded it an installed it, but may have installed it first. I have been tapping the sync button but not getting appointments in the today screen. Also, if I tap the little folders icon at the bottom of the left pane and then click on either the default or iCloud calendar...nothing. The only way I can see anything is to tap the calendar button. Why is this? Thanks.
 
Did you configure it (codetwo's sync tool) to sync the folders? You can pick and choose which folders are synced.

I don't know of any way to kick start the apple sync function - it works for some people but does not work for others.
 
Well, I have had the sync tool installed for a few weeks now and things have been working well in the way of syncing the calendar in my iPhone I have selected to place ALL of my appointments with OL. This morning I chose to back my iPhone up for the heck of it. Either I did something unknowingly or something has updated with the tool or with iTunes because now a calendar is now showing in my phone called CALENDAR under On My iPhone in addition to CALENDAR under iCloud (always been there). Also, I entered a few new appointments into my phone today but they are not showing in OL folder I have selected it to sync with. Any ideas? Thanks.
