Opening pst files in different versions of outlook

Hi Everyone, Happy New Year

Apologies if this question has been asked before I have had a look through the forum but couldnt find an answer.

I backed up my old work email into a pst file, I think it was in Office 2003 version but may have been 2007.

I have started a new job with Office 2010 version and have just tried to open my old pst. First of all it asked for a password, I didnt manually set one when I created it and my old password for my pc didnt work so i used pstpassword software to find it. Outlook now opens the file but nothing is displayed. If I go into properties though I can see all of the old folders...

Any ideas?
 
We see this fairly often when the pst was from Outlook 2000 and the user tries to open it in 2010. I haven't seen it much with Outlook 2003 pst.

Usually when you get the password dialog when none was set, the pst has some corruption. Try running scanpst on it.

Hi Diane

Thanks for the response. You might have been right about the corruprion. I took the file from another backup device and it now works.
