Outlook 2013 stuck "processing" when opening.

Outlook 2013 was working fine until I decided to open my Gmail account. It has ever since been "processing". I restarted the computer and as soon as I open Outlook, it gets stuck "processing". Please help
 
Do you have any Outlook plugins installed? Will Outlook start in safe mode (press control key and click on outlook icon)? Just to confirm have you added your Gmail account using pop3?
 
I am not sure whether all plugins were installed when it was installed on 9 Nov 2014. I have tried the safe mode as requested but nothing different observed. The same blue screen appears with a message that the Gmail account could not be configured and after I say OK, it goes back "processing" and hangs there continuously.
There are not many emails in the gmail account as it has not been used.
