Recently I have had several problems with my Office Outlook 2013 file. First I could not create a new calendar, as well as not being able to open and modify two of six groups of records in my contacts' folder.
I ran system file checker, which found and fixed some errors. Then tried 'scanpst' which also found and fixed errors AND deleted my complete contacts folder!!!!
Now what to do? Should I go back to my backup file and create a new profile? TIA for any tips.
 
Workaround applied.
I opened a backup .pst and saved all the groups of contacts to individual .csv files (nb could not save them all as one contacts' folder. One day I'll understand the complicated way MSoft organises and saves contacts!!)
I imported the files into my current .pst file, and they work. Hooray!!
