Hi,

All clients can connect to the server but no database is found, cannot connect to database. I am stuck and cannot understand the problem. It cannot be firewalls or ports (5356) since I can connect to the server. Why isn't my database(s) visible. The screen just shows an empty list with the message saying "no database found". I haven't been able to find any information online that explains this problem. Most connectivity issues is about not getting access / not being able to log in to the SQL Server. I can login/connect just fine to the server but there is no database to connect to?????

Complete installations have proceeded without any errors.

Server side

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Express (ADV). Installed and reinstalled (no change to problem)

BCM Outlook 2010 Database Tool 2010. Installed and reinstalled (no change to problem)

Successfull creation of database both by new name and by default database name (no difference to problem)

Tried to delete and create new databases (no change to problem)

Added users using the BCM Database tool without errors

Client side

Win 7 Pro 64 bit

BCM Outlook 2010

Office 2010 (Outlook 2010)

All clients can see/access and login to the SQL Server but during step 2 (chosing database) its just an empty screen saying "no database found".

Thanks for your support!

Re: "No database found" but successful connection to SQL server. What am I miss

I hate BCM connection errors. :( You checked the TCP settings too I assume - i guess you won't get into sql otherwise.

Have you seen How to troubleshoot a shared database in Outlook with Business Contact Manager Update ?

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I have read the info on the link you suggest. I have also read the FAQ and 3rd party info scattered around the Internet, but with no luck.

I am probably missing something very simple here but I cannot see what?!

I have re-installed the SQL server software (2008 R2 SP2 Express) on a newly installed Win 7 32 bit pc but the problem is the same. I think its very strange. Using the BCM Database tool I have created a database, next i click share database and click on the "add"-button to add users. BCM tool reports all activities as completed with success.

On the client side I click the "connect to remote database" from the BCM Outlook 2010 add-on. The first prompt I get is to type the server name. If I type a random name (just for testing) it comes back with the error cannot connect to server. When I type in the name of the Server it connects and immediately takes med to the next prompt / dialogue screen where I am supposed to click which database to connect to. On this screen, however, there is no database listed. top of the screen it just says "cannot find any database".

This is megastrange to me! Going back to the SQL server and starting the SQL Server Configuration tool I can confirm TCP/IP is enabled (wouldn't be able to connect otherwise. Also checked port (5356) again wouldn't be able to connect if otherwise.

I launch the Management tool and I can verify that the database exists on the SQL server.

Any ideas are VERY welcome.

Is this a AD configuration or just a small network, not using AD to log in?

Re: "No database found" but successful connection to SQL server. What am I miss

Dear all,

Problem finally "solved".

I re-installed clean pc (win 7 32bit) and the SQL + BCM tools AGAIN, sigh. Added a database and the same problem occured again i.e. no database found as described above. This time I tried to add the default database as well and finally there was two databases to choose from.

So, in my case;

1) Clean install of everything, database with personal name created = no database is found

2) Clean install of everything, database with default name created (MSSmallBusiness) = no database is found

3) Clean install of everything, database with two databases created default name AND personal name; MSSmallBusiness + "mynameddatabase" = suddenly the screen showed both databases and I was able to connect to either one of them.

Interesting. I knew it worked better with the default name but hadn't heard that it liked two to choose from.
