Outlook 2007 attachments create multiple copies in the inbox

I received a few forwarded emails from my dad lately that have had video attachments. When I click on the email and error pops up and then the email makes copies of itself in the inbox until I just turn the PC off. It just started doing this recently and only with video attachments. If I go into safe mode I can go into Outlook 2007 and delete the messages. But when I get them in normal XP mode, it still does the same thing.

Note: Other people who have got the forward don't have this problem. Some are using Outlook 2007. Also, when I access my email via the internet (not outlook), I can view the messages properly.

And.... How can I backup all my settings and email from Outlook 2007? If I lost Outlook would I lose any emails?

What type of email account do you have configured in Outlook?

Does it make the copies automatically every few minutes or so, or only when you click on the attachment?
 
My email account is with shaw.ca. I don't know if that's what you mean by "account". When I start outlook, it just starts copying itself. Outlook opens then there is an error and the email copies itself and then the error and then the copying. This goes on and on until I just shut my computer off. It's very annoying.
 
She means POP3 or IMAP account. I can't see how imap could duplicate the message but not POP3 or other account types.




go to tools, account settings and the account type is to the right of the acccount name.
