A friend has just changed his email address so I added it in Contacts. But when I tried to delete the old address I couldn't. The only commands there are 'manage' (import/export/link duplicate contract) but no 'delete' command and not even an 'edit' command. What should I do please?

This is in Outlook on the web? When you select the contact in the Contacts folder, the Delete button should come up.

Damn spammers are everywhere. :(

Good morning Diane. I have no link to Contacts in my outlook.com menu

- I have to click on the icon at the bottom. This takes me to Contacts (htXXtps://outlook.live.com/people/) which was described as (Outlook.com - Microsoft free personal email) when I first posted. Below is a snip of the Hotmail profile that I want to delete (I've had to remove the personal info) - all I see in my Outlook Contacts are the commands I described earlier.

Ah - thanks for the screenshot, it helped a lot. That is search results. It's returning am auto complete entry. Create a new message, type the name or address, then click X to delete it.

Hello Diane. That's a snip of the item in contacts that I'm trying to delete. I've already created his new contact but can't delete the old one. My outlook.com is a strange one, possibly a UK version. It differs from the normal one and it was created after whatever I was on at the time was updated. One problem is a missing command; this might be 'File'; I'm frantically trying to find a previous huge thread in MS Comm about the problem. Hoping to find it and get back asap. Regards.

That looks like an autocomplete entry (yes, they are included in search results :( ) - that is why the link to add to contacts.

If the contact existed, it would have edit/delete

To delete those entries, you need to delete it from the To field - when it comes up, click the X to the right of the name.

sorry Diane but there is no X to delete. I first set up the new contact in yahoo but still couldn't delete the Hotmail profile. Attached is a snip of the Hotmail profile, edited to remove P.I.

If the X never shows up, then its one of outlook.com's automatic 'suggestions' - which are based on recent messages you received. That list should clear of older items within a few days. (That's what microsoft says - i have addresses hang around a fairly long time.)

Hello Diane. I may have found a solution: I changed the full name on the contact I want to remove to just his initials.
Let's say for now that he's Fred Bloggs & that I changed his name to FB. When I now create a new email to Fred Bloggs it brings up both Fred Bloggs (yahoo email address, which I want to keep) and FB (Hotmail email address, which I wanted to remove).

So although I still can't delete Fred Bloggs (Hotmail) I now know that the contact with the full name is the one that I need to use.

Hoping that this makes sense!!
